Don’t Just Compare Prices — Compare the Plan
Landscaping contracts aren’t all the same. Two bids might look similar, but what’s included — and what’s left out — can cost thousands over the course of a year. Before signing a commercial or HOA landscape contract, make sure you’re asking the right questions. Here’s what to clarify up front to avoid future headaches.
Make sure to ask:
How often will turf mowing occur?
Does bed maintenance include weeding, or is that extra?
Are shrubs trimmed regularly or left to overgrow?
Is debris and trash removal part of every visit?
Will walkways be blown clean every time or only as needed?
Beware vague “mow and blow” promises—they often mean subpar service.
Don’t assume irrigation is monitored. Ask:
How frequently is the irrigation system inspected?
Are controller adjustments included with weather changes?
Are basic head repairs covered or extra?
Will you receive automatic reports on leaks or pressure issues?
Water waste and turf loss are costly problems you can avoid with good irrigation care.
Clarify:
Do they reschedule missed visits or skip them entirely?
Are monthly bills prorated for weather-related skips?
How do they handle snow or ice cleanup overlapping with regular landscaping?
Is storm cleanup included or billed separately?
Understand how your landscape is managed throughout the year.
Check if crews:
Are consistent and assigned specifically to your site
Know how to report property issues like drainage, tree damage, or vandalism
Are trained to work with HOA boards or property managers
Have insurance and proper liability documentation
Experienced crews treat your property like a professional job site—not just a quick stop.
A reliable company should provide:
Weekly logs detailing completed tasks
Tracking of problem areas and resolutions
Photo documentation when necessary
Clear communication channels and prompt response times
You’re investing in comprehensive landscape management, not just grass cutting.
Ask about potential add-ons, including:
Fertilizer, mulch, or seasonal color installs
Irrigation or pruning services
Disposal or haul-off fees
Emergency or off-schedule visit charges
A low upfront bid isn’t a bargain if you face frequent surprise invoices.
We believe in transparency, quality, and long-term relationships — not fine print and vague promises.
